Tesla has increased the prices of its premium electric cars, Model S and Model X, by $5,000 in the US. The company announced this update on Thursday through a post on X (Twitter) and by updating its official website.
This price hike applies to all configurations of both models. After the price update, the dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) version of the Model S now starts at $84,990, and the high-performance Plaid variant now costs $99,990. Similarly, the new price of the Model X AWD is $89,990 and the Model X Plaid will now be available for $104,990. This information was reported by Reuters.
Apart from this, Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that Tesla will “tentatively” launch its long-awaited robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, from June 22. This will be a big step forward in Tesla’s vision for autonomous driving. Musk said, “We are being extremely cautious about safety, so the date could also change.”
Musk also shared that the first Tesla car which will fully self-drive from the production line straight to the customer’s home is scheduled for delivery on June 28 — if this happens, it will be an industry-first.
For the robotaxi rollout, reportedly unmodified Tesla Model Ys will be used, which will have the Full Self-Driving (FSD) software pre-installed and will be capable of running without any human interven
tion. In a recent video from Austin, a Model Y with a “Robotaxi” logo was seen transporting a passenger without a driver on board. Musk confirmed this video too, stating, “Every Tesla coming out of our factories is capable of unsupervised self-driving.”
